    Avaliação do potencial de difusão do veículo eléctrico na área metropolitana de Lisboa

    Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em Engenharia do Ambiente, perfil de Gestão e Sistemas AmbientaisO veículo eléctrico (VE) apresenta vantagens consideráveis face ao veículo de combustão interna (VCI), nomeadamente ao nível da eficiência, consumo energético, emissões atmosféricas, ruído e custos de operação. No entanto, tem também grandes limitações, visto que a sua autonomia é reduzida, o seu preço inicial é elevado, o carregamento da bateria é demorado, e exige uma infra-estrutura própria e ubíqua. Este estudo teve como objectivo avaliar o potencial de difusão na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (AML), identificando os agregados familiares para os quais estas limitações não impedem que o VE seja uma opção possível e realista no momento de aquisição de um carro novo. Nesta análise foram considerados quatro cenários diferentes de subsidiação. Com base em dados do Instituto Nacional de Estatística e de inquéritos de mobilidade realizados pelo Centro de Estudos Urbanos e Regionais do Instituto Superior Técnico, gerou-se uma população sintética com propriedades estatísticas equivalentes à população da AML. Foi aplicada uma árvore de decisão, classificando cada agregado relativamente à viabilidade do VE enquanto opção na compra de um carro novo. Concluiu-se que o VE tem um potencial de difusão muito baixo, sendo uma opção viável para um número de agregados entre 22 701 (correspondente a 2,2% dos agregados da AML) e 71 352 (7,1%), consoante o cenário de subsidiação. A difusão do VE será dificultada ainda pela lenta taxa de renovação da frota portuguesa, não sendo expectável, mesmo numa perspectiva optimista, a entrada de mais de 3400 VE anualmente no parque automóvel da AML. Foi feita uma avaliação dos benefícios ambientais resultantes dos agregados seleccionados substituírem um dos seus VCI por um VE. Concluiu-se que haveria uma redução nacional anual no consumo de energia final entre 0,08% e 0,14%, e de emissões de CO2 entre 0,06% e 0,12%, consoante a política de subsidiação. Face a estas reduções pouco significativas, é questionável se se justifica o investimento avultado previsto para a difusão do VE. O problema da mobilidade urbana deverá ser abordado em várias frentes, fazendo uma análise comparativa às vantagens de apoiar fortemente o VE ou de direccionar esse investimento para outras soluções que possam trazer maiores benefícios ambientais, económicos e sociais

In this paper, an agent-based model ABM is presented to test different the feasibility of different service configurations in a real context.     This paper discusses the existing urban-rural dichotomy in Portuguese urban planning, assuming its importance on food-provision, a basic human need. Our analysis stems from an historical overview at two scales, regional and municipal, within the Lisbon Region. Specifically, we identify key changes between two time-periods : the mid-twentieth century, when design-based planning was established in Portugal for larger settlements, and nowadays, when it covers the totality of the national territory, based on land-use. We review these strategies, assessing what approaches would best encompass a sustainable transition of the food system.We start with the scheme of regional radial axis by architect Étienne de Gröer in contrast with the 2002 Lisbon Regional Plan. We furthermore expose two urbanization plans from 1940s : that of Vila Franca de Xira (1946) by Miguel Jacobetty and Faria da Costa and that of Palmela (1948) by João António Aguiar. Such plans, highly representative of the planning practices of that era, are then compared with their contemporary counterparts and subsequently with samples of their physical impacts on the ground, based on a morphological analysis of settlements and productive spaces in urban and rural contexts.Finally, we identify key changes for better use of productive soils within the Lisbon Region, considering challenges posed by international and national agendas

    Drivers of change: how the food system of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area is being shaped by activities, initiatives and citizens needs towards a sustainable transition

    Food has always been an urban issue. The role of cities in building more sustainable food systems is already recognized and related to other urban domains, such as transport, health, land use planning for agriculture and multifunctional areas, community development, employment generation and waste management. The implications of these on urban planning and practice are however less evident. A proper spatialization of the food system and of its metabolic flows is missing, inhibiting their necessary readings for urban design. This paper addresses this gap. After introducing the concept of food system and discussing its spatial components – production, transformation, distribution, commercialization/consumption and waste management – we expose how a set of food-related activities and initiatives are shaping the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The socio-ecological metabolic flows established by these operations on the ground and their sustainability impacts are established, based on the analysis of five municipalities: Lisbon, Oeiras, Alcochete, Palmela and Montijo. The results reveal how food is already an opportunity for the creation of jobs, healthy food markets and the promotion of land productivity, in particular on a micro scale. The paper recognizes the importance of localized food systems and their particular metabolic flows, capable of boosting opportunities to overcome physical and social obstacles and to increase the possibilities for urban planning to target the urban food system on a wider scale. Finally, it concludes that the overall food system of a metropolitan area is more than the sum of the several food systems operating in that same region

    Mammals are threatened worldwide, with 26% of all species being includedin the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associatedwith habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mam-mals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion formarine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems func-tionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is cru-cial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS INPORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublishedgeoreferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mam-mals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira thatincludes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occur-ring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live obser-vations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%),bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent lessthan 1% of the records.     A História da Alimentação: balizas historiográficas

    Os M. pretenderam traçar um quadro da História da Alimentação, não como um novo ramo epistemológico da disciplina, mas como um campo em desenvolvimento de práticas e atividades especializadas, incluindo pesquisa, formação, publicações, associações, encontros acadêmicos, etc. Um breve relato das condições em que tal campo se assentou faz-se preceder de um panorama dos estudos de alimentação e temas correia tos, em geral, segundo cinco abardagens Ia biológica, a econômica, a social, a cultural e a filosófica!, assim como da identificação das contribuições mais relevantes da Antropologia, Arqueologia, Sociologia e Geografia. A fim de comentar a multiforme e volumosa bibliografia histórica, foi ela organizada segundo critérios morfológicos. A seguir, alguns tópicos importantes mereceram tratamento à parte: a fome, o alimento e o domínio religioso, as descobertas européias e a difusão mundial de alimentos, gosto e gastronomia. O artigo se encerra com um rápido balanço crítico da historiografia brasileira sobre o tema
